OUR MISSION
OUR MODEL
CommunitiWorks promotes a holistic approach in which we integrate different activities but retain a common goal. These activities can include methods ranging from micro-credit to health awareness campaigns to cooperatives.
We link different groups within a community, for example unemployed men and women with semi-skilled working women, in order to develop social services, small businesses, advocacy efforts.
A teacher training program for men and women in the program; they teach at the school for a minimum period of three years.
The Women's cooperative channels a percentage of its income into the development of basic services such as children's education and vocational training. These investments have a direct impact on the lives of the individuals as well as on the community as a whole .
Supporting
economic mobility through income-generation activities.
Two women’s cooperatives run a production center and invest in multiple enterprises within the community. They work with unemployed, educated youth to develop small businesses. They use their growing economic and social resources to advocate for improvements in infrastructure and other basic services.
One of the women’s cooperatives is for the mothers of the children attending the school;
A production center run by the cooperative advertises their skills and eliminates middlemen. The center manages orders from local traders for hand embroidery, quilt making, chain making and seasonal orders such a candle making;
Grocery
store and dairy stores run by the cooperative serve
as income generating activities and services to the community
because of the quality of their products;
A telephone
booth/store is operated by the women of the cooperative
as an additional source of income generation.
Improving general health standards
A health program financed by the cooperative;
Health initiatives include regular check-ups and immunization of the students in the school as well as health programs to combat anemia and to promote family planning.
Improving infrastructure, sanitation and housing within the community.
The community has lobbied successfully for paving the road in front of the school and for improving the sanitation system in the area.
The landlords of the neighboring buildings have cleaned up the surrounding areas.
Promoting inclusiveness and accountability among all stakeholders in the community.
The community has raised the funds to enlarge the school building and double the number of students .
The parents of children in the school and the children have conducted awareness campaigns.
