Construction
of new school building in Shaheed Nagar
Construction on new school building begun on 10th July
2006. The ongoing expansion of the school is to accommodate
a waiting list of 120 children. |

Future Plans
FIVE YEAR PLAN
- CommunitiWorks is raising funds for some of the community in Shaheed Nagar's most pressing needs including a new school building to accommodate an additional 120 children as well as the expansion of the Vocational Training Centre.
The new school building construction has already begun.
- Other plans include a new road and Water Purification Units (based on the Reverse Osmosis System) for the school in Shaheed Nagar and 25 households.
In addition, CommunitiWorks is in the process of establishing a second women's cooperative in the same community: the cooperative's income generation activities will contribute to the development of basic services such as a mobile health clinic or pharmacy as well as the school.
- CommunitiWorks is working with ATF to help the cooperative in Amroha launch a juice and snack stand, with the goal of expanding into a family restaurant.
- CW is planning to replicate the model of Shaheed Nagar
in other areas of India and elsewhere. We have identified
a new potential community in Uttar Pradesh where we would
like to begin a new cooperative and school. This community
includes five rural villages. On the basis of the baseline
study conducted in the coming months at the new location,
we hope to be able to begin the new project in the next
year.
